Soap Recipe

This recipe and accompanying instructions are intended to document what ingredients were used, and what steps were taken, at this particular event.  No claims are associated with the success of these recipes.  Instructions provided are not complete enough to be able to successfully and safely make soap.

Ingredients:

28 oz. (1.12 oz.) coconut oil

21 oz. (1.5 oz.) pig lard

31 oz. (1.15 oz.) olive oil

4 cups water

12 oz. lye

1/3 round cup scent

Colorant as desired

Safety Note: Wear mask, goggles, and gloves when working with lye mixture.

1st Mixture: Combine 28 oz. (1.12 oz.) coconut oil, 21 oz. (1.5 oz.) pig lard, and 31 oz. (1.15 oz.) olive oil. Melt together and bring to a boil at approximately 105 degrees.

2nd Mixture: Combine 4 cups water and 12 oz. lye. The mixing of these two ingredients activates the mixture and creates heat. Cool to 105 degrees.

Combining Mixtures: Merge the two mixtures together, stirring constantly. Mix by hand while combining, then with a mixer on low for 2 minutes, then with a mixer on high until it traces.

Additives: Add desired color (note: Mica = clearer; Pigments = darker) and scent, in that order. (Note: Scent may speed up soap drying process, so this step should be done last in order to ensure sufficient time to get soap mixture into box.)

Shaping: Pour into a plastic lined wooden mold box and smooth the top.
